Dog Training Chicago

Dog Training, learn more about the joy of a well trained dog.

Dog training is an important component of responsible dog ownership. Proper dog training teaches your dog how to exist in a two-legged world, strengthens the bond between people and dogs, and keeps your dog safe. It’s much easier to have a dog who walks well on leash, who knows to sit and stay, and who doesn't’t jump on people!

As an owner of Unleashed pups I, Bridgid Nolan, have chosen to work with Dog Trainer Curtis Scott, who’s knowledge, experience and dedication, combined with his simple and balanced Dog Training methods, make him the best dog trainer in Chicago . Curtis has used his personalized dog training methods with hundreds of dogs, including rescue dogs waiting for their forever homes. At Unleashed pups we offer a variety of dog training classes, from group to private sessions with Curtis. Your Time with Your Best Friend

Method:

“KISS” Training Method
Keep it Simple System – Training for both ends of the leash

I developed what I call the KISS (Keep it Simple) system. It’s a basic yet effective dog training method where I teach you how to read, understand and react to your dog’s body language. Since dogs are not verbal, they try to communicate with us through their body language. And unfortunately, most of us do not yet comprehend enough of the basics to understand what it is they are trying to say. Once you have mastered their “language,” it is very easy to communicate and therefore, effectively train your dog.  Dogs are honest and direct and there are never hidden agendas in what their “body” is saying.  Learn the basics and you can positively and consistently “speak” with your dog throughout his life.

This compassionate training method is simple and you don’t need to have in-depth technical skills, education or years of experience.  In fact, after a short time, it just becomes common sense once you have consistently implemented what you’ve learned.  I use a balance of both positive and negative reinforcement depending on your dog’s needs. It’s very straightforward and easy to follow.  So easy, in fact, you will see results in the first session.

My training method has been written up in several newspapers including the Northwest Indiana Times, the Lake County Post-Tribune, the Suntime News Group and the RedEye. I have also been featured on Fox News Chicago (WFLD), CBS (Channel 2) and Lakeshore News Tonight (northwest Indiana).

Implementing my dog training method also prevents your dog from developing bad habits and it can be used for big, small, young and old dogs. If your dog has specific behavioral issues, we can target those concerns and make it much better.  Not only will your dog be better behaved and happier, but you will strengthen the relationship and trust between the two of you.  And with dogs, trust means the world to them.

Tips:

1. Never correct a dog when you're mad.
2. A reward is proven more effective in teaching a desired behavior than punishment.
3. Never physically harm your dog.
4. It's better to teach your dog what you want him to do than to focus on what you don't want him to do.
5. The most important command you can teach your dog is the 'recall' --it can save his life.
6. Just like people, a dog, too, needs at least one hobby, class or extracurricular activity to properly maintain his mind.
7. Don't ever leave your dog unattended. Anywhere. Dogs are getting stolen out of backyards, from cars and when tied up outside public places. You don't want to know what happens to them.
8. Make sure you take off your puppy's collar when he's crated as a safety precaution.
9. Don't subject your dog to extreme weather conditions. Just because he's a dog doesn't mean he can withstand very hot or very cold temperatures.
10. Can't get the problem resolved? Neither can many other people. Call a professional trainer or behaviorist before you give up.
